These pieces are a development from references to classic forms of pottery:
Giz and Pata are jugs that are turning into what might perhaps almost become a domestic animal.
Chatterers is a corner piece, a family of bottles which have been (de)formed by their exuberance.
Ele is one answer to my question as to what could happen if I were to take the idea of the folded open bowl and continue it on upwards whilst drawing the folds together.
Pas de Deux is a series based on varieties of communication between two bottle forms in torsion.
In the various versions of Growing Up the two forms are intertwined - either fused at the base and not yet separate, or alternatively separable, but with the subsidiary form still held and contained by the larger piece.
I do not sketch or draw before making pieces; the forms evolve from the making process and are not intended to be illustrative. In my most recent work however, I am interested in developing forms in relation to one another, which opens the possibility for them to be expressive of aspects of human relationships.
