| Open Bowls & Leaf Pots |

For the leaf pots, I mostly worked these by hand in stoneware or, occasionally, grogged porcelain. I roll out a piece of clay until it is quite thin, then lay it on some kind of a concave surface until it has stiffened a bit. I try to keep the edges damp and soft, to be able to fold them, pull them, and tear them. While shaping the piece I prop up the sides with small bits of old sponge or newspaper, which can be removed once the piece is leather hard for finishing.
The Ludic pieces are made by making several folded bowls in contrasting clays to fit one inside the other, ending up in the middle with a small petal-like form. In theory they can be taken apart, which I once did after firing, in order to clean off the residue from some newspaper which had been used to separate the folds while drying. I did manage to put it together again, but I would recommend it only to puzzle fanatics.
